A recent Forbes article written by Noah Glass, the Founder & CEO of Olo (leading provider of digital ordering and on-demand interfaces for the restaurant industry), talks about the impact that COVID-19 has had on restaurants. With many restaurants in lockdown or struggling to get in-store customers, customers have had two options to get their favorite foods - Third Party Apps (Postmates, Uber Eats, etc.) or pick up from the restaurants.
Glass states that if you really want to support a restaurant during this pandemic, pick up is more beneficial for the restaurant (and for the customer since it's cheaper). The reason for this is due to the fact that restaurants pay a "20%–30% commission to these marketplaces" and the consumer pays extra fees on the order. Additionally, these third party apps take your information and use it for their own benefit, rather than benefitting the restaurant that you ordered from (they might recommend a competitor of the restaurant).
Glass explains several different methods that restaurants can use to get more pick-up orders from their store. Click here to read the full article and learn how to help restaurants during COVID-19.
